Kevin Williamson Steps Back from Directing Scream 8

Kevin Williamson, the creator of the Scream franchise, has confirmed that he will not be directing or writing the upcoming potential sequel, Scream 8. In a recent interview with Hello Sidney, Williamson expressed his desire to focus on other projects, stating, “Not Scream, no,” when asked if his experience with Scream 7 inspired him to continue directing within the franchise. He mentioned that he is currently engaged in developing several television shows and has a separate film he wishes to direct when time permits.

Williamson, who co-wrote and directed Scream 7, which was released last month and has grossed over $150 million globally, indicated that while he hopes for Scream 8, discussions about the sequel have not yet commenced. He remarked, “I’m hopeful there will be an 8. No one’s really talking about it yet.” This suggests that while there is optimism regarding the franchise's continuation, formal plans have yet to be established by Paramount Pictures.
