The New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS) agency, in collaboration with Goodfood Group Limited, announced the recall for products with a best before date of November 5, 2026. The cheese, imported from Germany, was sold in supermarkets nationwide and has since been removed from store shelves.

While healthy adults may experience mild symptoms such as diarrhea or flu-like effects within a few days of consuming contaminated food, symptoms in vulnerable groups can take two to three weeks or longer to manifest. Arbuckle noted that listeriosis can lead to severe complications during pregnancy, including miscarriage, premature labor, or stillbirth.

NZFS has advised consumers not to eat the affected cheese and to return it to the place of purchase for a refund. If returning the product is not feasible, consumers are instructed to dispose of it. The agency has not received any reports of illness linked to this specific batch of cheese. Arbuckle stated, “These products should not be eaten,” and encouraged anyone who has consumed the cheese and has health concerns to seek medical advice.
