Located near the University Club, the restaurant is the creation of local restaurateur Brandon Landry, who is also known for founding Walk-On’s, Smalls Sliders, and Supperclub. Notable dishes highlighted by Landry include carne asada made with filet, crispy tuna tostadas, roasted sweet potato bowls, Hawaiian barbecue pork tacos, and short rib enchiladas. Landry states, “It’s do [fewer] things better,” reflecting his philosophy of focusing on quality ingredients and classic preparations rather than an extensive menu.

In line with its name, Amigo Al's boasts an extensive drink menu featuring over 50 types of tequila, including blanco, reposado, and añejo. The restaurant also offers a curated wine list and frozen margaritas made with fresh juices, ensuring a high-quality beverage experience. Landry has made it clear that the margaritas served will not be the typical “cheap headache-in-the-morning” variety, reinforcing the restaurant's dedication to quality.

The establishment is not only a culinary venture for Landry but also a tribute to his father, Al, who inspired him to enter the restaurant business 25 years ago. The restaurant's name honors his father, and a restored 1953 Chevy 3100 truck, reminiscent of Al's first vehicle, is prominently displayed outside as part of the restaurant's theme. The interior design, crafted by Landry’s wife, Mackenzie, and Carol LaCour of Monochrome, features Mexican tiles, globe fixtures, potted cacti, and vibrant murals, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Amigo Al's Tequileria operates Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The restaurant is located at 735 E. Hwy. 30, Stes. E and F, St. Gabriel, providing a new dining option for local residents and visitors alike.
