Chloe Zhao Fundraises for Animal Rescue Efforts in Ukraine

Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao announced on March 19, 2023, her participation in a fundraiser aimed at supporting animals affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine. The initiative, organized in collaboration with Charitybuzz, offers contributors a chance to share a virtual cup of tea with Zhao, with all proceeds benefiting Animal Rescue Kharkiv (ARK), a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing and caring for animals impacted by the conflict.

Founded during the war, ARK has been actively involved in providing essential care and protection for at-risk animals in Ukraine for over 11 years. The organization emphasizes its commitment to addressing both visible and unseen wounds of the animals it rescues, offering refuge until they are ready for new homes. We find them where others cannot, treat wounds both visible and unseen, and give them refuge until the day they are ready for a new life.” Since the onset of the full-scale war, ARK has rescued over 28,300 animals, relying on the dedication of more than 110 staff members who work tirelessly under challenging conditions.

American actor and director Sean Penn has also shown his support by participating in the Ukrainian anthology film "War Through the Eyes of Animals," where he accepted a symbolic fee of one dollar. This project features seven short films by Ukrainian directors, each depicting true stories of animal rescues during the war. Upon his arrival in Kyiv on March 16, Penn met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who acknowledged his unwavering support for Ukraine.
