UN Climate Report Highlights Alarming Trends in Global Warming

The United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO) released its annual "State of the Climate" report for 2025, revealing that the past decade, from 2015 to 2025, has been the hottest on record. The report indicates that 2025 was the second or third hottest year, with temperatures approximately 1.43 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial averages. This alarming trend underscores the urgency of addressing climate change, as the Earth’s climate is now "more out of balance than at any point in observed history."

Notably, ocean heat content has reached unprecedented levels, with the oceans absorbing the equivalent of about 18 times the annual human energy output over the past 20 years. In 2025, ocean heat content, measured up to a depth of 2,000 meters, hit the highest level since records began in 1960. Furthermore, greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere are at record highs, contributing to more frequent and severe extreme weather events, including heat waves and floods.
