Australian Fuel Shortages Amid Assurances of Supply

Despite assurances from Australian ministers that the fuel market is well supplied, several hundred petrol stations across the country are experiencing shortages of either petrol or diesel. As of March 24, New South Wales, Australia's most populous state, reported 165 stations without diesel and 298 stations lacking at least one type of petrol, according to local media sources. On the same day, he introduced a relaxation of fuel standards that would permit more diesel into the market. This adjustment lowers the flashpoint of diesel from 61.5 degrees Celsius to 60.5 degrees Celsius, thereby increasing the flexibility of Australian refineries and expanding the sources from which diesel can be obtained.
