China's Humanoid Robot Half-Marathon Set to Showcase Industry Advancements

The 2026 Yizhuang humanoid robot half-marathon is scheduled for April 19, 2026, in Beijing's Yizhuang district. This event will feature over 300 humanoid robots from more than 100 competing teams, marking a significant expansion from the inaugural race held in 2025. According to Liu Weiliang, deputy director-general of the Beijing Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, the event will include participation from 76 entities across 13 provincial-level regions, with entries from over 80 corporate teams and more than 20 university and training-camp teams.

The upcoming half-marathon reflects a notable growth in the scale and technical capabilities of the humanoid robotics sector in China. The number of participating teams has increased nearly fivefold since the first edition, and the geographic scope has expanded significantly. For the first time, the event will include an autonomous navigation group, which constitutes 38 percent of the teams, alongside a remote control group. To promote autonomous capabilities, the net times of remote-controlled teams will be adjusted with a 1.2 coefficient.

Prior to the race, a team of humanoid-robotics experts will conduct compliance inspections to ensure fairness among competitors. In addition to the half-marathon, a new sub-event called the Robot "Baturu" Challenge will take place on April 18, featuring 17 obstacle events designed to test the robots' stability and agility in simulated complex scenarios, including disaster-like conditions.

The local robotics industry chain is valued at more than 10 billion yuan (approximately $1.39 billion), accounting for half of Beijing's total robotics output.
