Netflix Announces "City Hunter 2" for 2027 Release

Netflix has confirmed the production of “City Hunter 2,” a sequel to the successful 2024 live-action adaptation of the popular manga series by Hojo Tsukasa. The film is set for a global premiere in 2027, with Suzuki Ryohei reprising his role as the protagonist Ryo Saeba, alongside Morita Misato as his partner Kaori Makimura. New to the cast is Kimura Fumino, who will portray the sharp-tongued detective Saeko Nogami. The film is directed by Shiraki Keiichiro, with a screenplay by Yamaoka Junpei, and is produced by HoriPro Inc. and Film-makers Inc. for Netflix.

The first installment of “City Hunter” achieved significant success, ranking No. 1 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 (Non-English Films) during its opening week from April 22–28, 2024. It also made the Top 10 in 32 countries, including Japan, France, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Brazil. The film's popularity led to a ninefold increase in sales of Hojo’s original manga, which has sold over 50 million copies worldwide since its debut. Additionally, location shooting in Kobe generated approximately JPY129 million ($811,000) in local economic activity.
