The Dell XPS 16, unveiled at CES in January, features a groundbreaking 1–120Hz variable refresh rate display, designed to optimize power consumption. This technology, developed in collaboration with LG Display, allows the laptop to significantly reduce energy usage when high refresh rates are unnecessary. Testing conducted by Notebookcheck indicates that a version of the XPS 16 equipped with the LG Display screen and Intel's Panther Lake chip achieved remarkable efficiency, drawing as little as 1.5 watts at idle.

This duration surpasses that of any MacBook or MacBook Pro tested since 2014, with only two other laptops achieving comparable results under specific conditions. One of these relied on a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus chip and a larger battery, while the other utilized dual batteries totaling 149Wh. However, it is important to note that real-world battery life may vary significantly from these controlled test results.
