Johnson described a series of disturbing incidents that began during her freshman year while conducting research at the Hoover Institution, focusing on Chinese industry and military tactics. She reported that a man, identified as Charles Chen, contacted her via social media, offering a paid trip to China and pressing her for personal details. Johnson expressed concern over Chen's knowledge of her private communications, as he publicly requested her to delete screenshots of their conversations.
