Scottish Family Reunited with Missing Cat After Four Years

A Scottish family from Forres has been joyfully reunited with their cat, Wesley, four years after he went missing. The reunion was made possible by a Facebook post from a local dog walker who spotted a sickly-looking ginger cat near the Knockomie Hotel, just over a mile from the family's home. Wesley, who is now 15 years old, disappeared in 2022, leading his owners to believe he was lost for good.

Chloe Daly, who was 13 when her family adopted Wesley from Cats Protection, discovered the post while scrolling through Facebook. The post included photos of a "big ginger cat" described as being "in quite a bad way." Chloe recognized distinctive brown spots on the cat's nose, prompting her to send the post to her mother, Lindsay. This sparked a series of efforts to locate Wesley.

After receiving the message, Lindsay began searching the area around the hotel. She spoke with dog walkers and residents who confirmed sightings of the cat. The hotel’s security team had also been feeding Wesley and provided videos of him being petted. Despite extensive searches from Friday afternoon through Sunday night, Wesley remained elusive.

On Sunday evening, the family installed a motion-detection camera near the hotel. Later that night, they received an alert indicating that Wesley had returned to the area. When they arrived, Wesley was initially startled but seemed to recognize Lindsay's voice. Chloe's father was able to catch him, leading to an emotional reunion.

Once back home, Wesley's behavior surprised the family. Chloe noted that he acted "as if he had never been away." Although he was understandably nervous, he allowed himself to be petted and quickly settled back into home life. The following day, Wesley was taken to the veterinarian, where he was treated for fleas and worms, and much of his severely matted fur had to be shaved. Fortunately, further tests revealed that he was otherwise healthy.
