Egyptian Traveler Omar Nok's No-Fly Journey Around the World

Omar Nok, a 31-year-old traveler from Egypt, is undertaking an ambitious journey to circumnavigate the globe without flying. Since departing from Cairo in October 2025, Nok has utilized various modes of transportation, including sailboats, buses, trains, and even a poultry truck, to experience the world more intimately. His journey has already taken him across deserts, land borders, and oceans, with St. Lucia marking his tenth stop.

Nok's philosophy of travel was inspired by the Japanese concept of "Ikigai," which emphasizes living a joyful life. This realization came during a seven-month stay in Japan in 2024, prompting him to leave his finance job at Amazon in 2022 to pursue full-time travel. He believes that avoiding flights allows for a deeper connection with the places he visits. “The no-flying part makes it easier to see more of the world,” Nok stated, highlighting the pride he feels in reaching distant destinations.

His travels are also being tracked via the travel app Polarsteps. Support from his online community has proven invaluable; for instance, a fan helped him secure an invitation letter necessary for his visa to enter Libya. Nok expressed that the most rewarding aspect of his journey is restoring people's faith in humanity through his adventures.

Despite these obstacles, he managed to reach his next destination with the help of a local friend. He has also faced logistical issues regarding visas, which have altered his travel plans, particularly concerning his intended route to the East Coast of the United States.
