Impact of Artificial Intelligence on College Students' Major Choices

A recent survey conducted by the Lumina Foundation and Gallup reveals that nearly half of college students are reconsidering their academic paths due to the growing impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the job market. Specifically, 47% of college students have given significant thought to switching majors, with 16% having already made the change. The survey included responses from 3,801 students across various degree programs, highlighting the pervasive influence of AI on educational decisions.

Among associate degree students, 56% reported contemplating a major change, compared to 42% of bachelor’s degree students. In contrast, those studying health care and natural sciences are the least likely to reconsider their fields, with only 34% expressing similar concerns.
