Holden noted that while it is too early to predict the exact trajectory of these cyclones, there is a possibility that one could impact New Zealand. The models have shown variability in their predictions, and Holden expressed cautious optimism that the cyclones might pass to the east of New Zealand.

The South Island is also under threat from a slow-moving frontal system that could bring heavy rainfall, particularly to the Westland District. An orange heavy rain warning is in effect for this area, with expected rainfall amounts between 180 mm to 240 mm. The heavy rain may extend into Sunday morning, with additional watches in place for the headwaters of the Canterbury Lakes and rivers. MetService has indicated that while the North Island will initially experience drier weather, the chance of rain will increase as the weekend progresses.
