Sharon Jones: A Late Bloomer in the Music Industry

Mann was so impressed with her voice that he brought her back to the studio to record "Damn It's Hot," which marked her transition to lead vocals. This collaboration led to the formation of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, a group that would become known for its energetic performances and authentic sound.

The Dap-Kings released their debut album, "Dap Dippin' With Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings," in 2001. The album garnered a growing fanbase, thanks in part to the band's relentless touring schedule. In 2013, Jones was diagnosed with stage II pancreatic cancer, which required her to undergo chemotherapy. Despite her health struggles, she continued to tour with the Dap-Kings, showcasing her commitment to her music and fans. Tragically, Sharon Jones passed away in 2016 at the age of 60, leaving behind a legacy of perseverance and passion for music.
