Sentencing of Kevin Nishita's Killers: A Tragic Conclusion

In November 2021, Kevin Nishita, a retired police officer and security guard, was fatally shot while protecting a television news crew in Oakland, California. The incident occurred during an attempted robbery of the crew's equipment. On Tuesday, three men involved in the crime were sentenced to lengthy prison terms. Laron Gilbert, 31, received a sentence of 30 years to life for first-degree murder, while his accomplices, Shadihia Mitchell, 29, and Hershel Hale, 28, were each sentenced to 25 years after pleading no contest to robbery.
