Objectives and Capabilities

The primary goal of the Andromeda program is to replace the existing Geosynchronous Space Situational Awareness Program (GSSAP) satellites, which have been operational since 2014. The GSSAP constellation, consisting of six satellites, has limited maneuver capabilities. In contrast, the new satellites are expected to be more agile while maintaining a long operational lifespan. The initial task order will focus on acquiring commercial satellites capable of closely inspecting and monitoring adversary spacecraft, enhancing the military's ability to track and interpret activities in a congested geosynchronous orbit.
