SC Films International Acquires Worldwide Rights for "Fujiko"

SC Films International has secured worldwide sales rights for "Fujiko," the second feature film by Japanese director Kimura Taichi. The film is produced by Megumi, who gained recognition for her Netflix series "Badly in Love." "Fujiko" features an ensemble cast that includes Katayama Yuki, Lily Franky, You, Ogata Issey, Kishimoto Kayoko, and Ujiki Tsuyoshi, alongside Megumi herself. The screenplay was crafted by Gajin Shota and Kuniyoshi Saki, with editing by Miyake Aika, known for her work on "Shogun."

Set in Shizuoka during the 1970s and 1980s, "Fujiko" draws from Kimura's own family history, focusing on a single mother's quest for personal freedom amid societal changes. The film's soundtrack features contributions from Tsuneta Daiki of King Gnu and Akira of Kikagaku Moyo, enhancing its rock-inflected identity.

"Fujiko" is scheduled to have its world premiere at the Udine Far East Film Festival in Italy, followed by its German premiere as the opening film of Nippon Connection. The film will be released theatrically in Japan on June 5, 2026. SC Films will also showcase "Fujiko" as part of its slate at the Cannes Film Market.
