Mack noted that most of Lake Mead's water supply originates from snowpack, and the ongoing climate crisis has exacerbated dry conditions in the region. Additionally, rising water temperatures pose challenges for water treatment operations, as highlighted by Todd Tietjen, the regional water quality manager for the Southern Nevada Water Authority. He emphasized the importance of cooler water for the treatment process and the operation of turbines at the Hoover Dam.

Recently, officials issued a warning regarding a harmful algal bloom in Government Wash, a section of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. They advised keeping pets leashed and away from the water and seeking medical attention if symptoms arise after exposure.
