Cannes Critics Week 2026: A Showcase of Emerging Talent

The 65th edition of Cannes’ Critics Week will commence with Phuong Mai Nguyen’s animated feature “In Waves” and conclude with Félix de Givry’s coming-of-age drama “Adieu monde cruel.” “In Waves” marks a significant milestone as it is the first animated film to open this parallel selection, which is curated by Ava Cahen and focuses on first and second features.

The Critics Week lineup features a diverse array of films, selected from 1,050 feature films and 2,400 shorts, comprising 11 features and 13 short films. Seven titles are in competition, including five first features and two second films, alongside four special screenings. She noted that the films provide sensitive visions that question contemporary societal issues.
