Melbourne Teen Charged with Multiple Offences, Denied Bail

A 13-year-old girl from Melbourne has been charged with a series of offences, including reckless conduct endangering serious injury and motor vehicle theft, after allegedly attempting to run over a cyclist with a stolen car. The incident occurred on March 30 in Brighton, a suburb in Melbourne's south-east, where the girl reportedly swerved the vehicle towards the cyclist before hitting him, causing him to fall to the ground. The girl, who cannot be identified due to her age, faces a total of 109 charges.

This search, along with other troubling content found on her phone, led authorities to believe that her actions were premeditated. Detective Grey noted, “It’s quite troubling … we realised it’s premeditated,” indicating that the girl may have been targeting specific communities, as evidenced by her search for “where do Jews live.”

The prosecutor emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “It’s reached its current peak in which a 13-year-old child is not only repeatedly been behind the wheel of a stolen car, but is weaponising them at the risk of road users.” The court heard that the girl expressed a belief that “nothing will stop her offending,” raising alarms about her potential threat to the community.
