Juan Devis Appointed President of Film Independent

Juan Devis has been appointed as the new president of Film Independent, a nonprofit arts organization known for producing the Film Independent Spirit Awards. His tenure will officially begin on April 20, succeeding Brenda Robinson, who served as acting president following the death of former president Josh Welsh in January 2025. Welsh had led the organization since 2012 and passed away after a prolonged battle with colon cancer.

Devis brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He previously served as the Chief Creative Officer at the Public Media Group of Southern California, which operates PBS SoCal and KCET. During his time there, he oversaw a team that produced award-winning programming, earning over 30 Emmy Awards, as well as accolades from the James Beard Foundation and the Edward R. Murrow Awards. Devis is also a co-founder of Ninety-Three Media, a production company focused on independent film and emerging media.
