Revival of "Malcolm in the Middle" Eligible for Emmy Consideration

The Hulu revival titled “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” has been confirmed as eligible for the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards, competing in comedy categories. This eligibility is based on the Television Academy’s Rule 11(b), which permits shows with shortened seasons—defined as fewer than six episodes—to be considered for awards. The revival consists of five episodes, aligning with this guideline. Notably, this rule also applies to Netflix’s “Queer Eye,” which is competing for its tenth season, also comprising five episodes.

Set nearly two decades after the original series concluded, the revival follows Malcolm, portrayed by Frankie Muniz, who is now living a stable life with his daughter Leah and girlfriend Tristan. The narrative shifts as he is drawn back into his family dynamics during his parents Hal and Lois's 40th wedding anniversary celebration. The revival has garnered significant viewership, becoming the most-watched season premiere of 2026 with 8.1 million global views within its first three days on Disney+ and Hulu.

The revival features a mix of returning cast members, including Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Emy Coligado, alongside newcomers Keeley Karsten, Vaughan Murrae, Kiana Madeira, and Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.
