Alejandro G. Iñárritu's "Amores Perros" Returns to Theaters for 25th Anniversary

Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s acclaimed debut feature, “Amores Perros,” will be re-released in theaters by Mubi, marking its 25th anniversary. The film is set to hit cinemas in New York and Los Angeles on June 12, 2026, with a nationwide expansion scheduled for June 19. “Amores Perros,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000, follows the intertwined lives of three characters after a fatal car crash. Upon its initial release on March 30, 2001, the film garnered significant acclaim, winning the Grand Prize of the Critics’ Week at Cannes and receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

Mubi acquired the rights to a restored 4K version of “Amores Perros” during the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it was featured in the Cannes Classics selection. The restoration was a collaborative effort involving Criterion Collection, Estudio Mexico Films, and Altavista Films, with color supervision provided by Iñárritu and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto. This restoration aims to enhance the film's visual quality for both new audiences and long-time fans.
