Pittsburgh Highlights Black Vendors During NFL Draft Weekend

Community-Led Events to Support Black-Owned Businesses
As the 2026 NFL Draft approaches, local organizations in Pittsburgh are organizing a series of events aimed at spotlighting Black vendors who were not selected to participate in the NFL Draft Source Program. The initiative, led by the Black Political Empowerment Project (B-PEP), seeks to provide these businesses with exposure and opportunities during the high-profile event taking place from April 23 to April 25.
The events will occur at three main locations, including Emerald City, a co-working and social space located at 213 Smithfield Street, which will serve as a hub for Black entrepreneurs. This venue will host activities from Thursday to Saturday, allowing vendors to showcase and sell their products and services. Tim Stevens, B-PEP Founder and CEO, emphasized the importance of these events, stating, “The three entities we are celebrating tonight in their efforts to expand the number of Black vendors who will now have an opportunity that they would not have had to benefit from the 2026 NFL Draft being held in Pittsburgh.”
In addition to Emerald City, a three-day festival organized by the movement "Powered by the Community" will take place in the Hill District, featuring hundreds of vendors offering a variety of goods, including art and food. This festival is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. each day. Furthermore, the 2026 Pittsburgh Draft Bash will occur at Allegheny Commons Park-West, running from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with shuttles available to transport attendees between the various sites.

Local leaders and organizers have expressed their commitment to ensuring that Black-owned businesses benefit from the NFL Draft weekend. “We want to make sure Black folks have an opportunity to benefit from this and not be left out,” Stevens remarked. Traffic Management for the NFL Draft
In anticipation of the significant influx of visitors—estimated at 600,000—PennDOT has established a dedicated website to help manage traffic during the NFL Draft. The site will provide real-time information on traffic conditions, including average travel times, incidents, and construction updates. PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll stated, “Hosting this major event in Pittsburgh is very exciting, and the department is using every tool possible to minimize roadway congestion and focus on safe travel.”
To enhance traffic monitoring, PennDOT will activate an additional 40 cameras and 32 message boards in the area. Motorists are encouraged to utilize the 511PA website for travel planning and updates.
