Historical Context

After the 1994 Gaza–Jericho Agreement created the Palestinian Authority, the first municipal elections were held in December 2004 (West Bank) and January 2005 (Gaza), organized by the Palestinian Central Elections Commission. Those polls established local councils and showed that municipal voting can prompt infrastructure commitments, a pattern echoed in today’s Deir al-Balah vote.
