U.S. Munitions Vulnerability Exposed by Recent Iran Conflict

Chinese military analysts have highlighted a significant vulnerability in the United States' military capabilities following its recent conflict with Iran. The war, which lasted 39 days before a ceasefire was declared, saw the U.S. deplete a substantial portion of its munitions stockpile. According to a report from the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the U.S. military utilized approximately half of its Patriot air defense missiles and the longer-range Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) interceptors during this period. Additionally, stockpiles of Standard Missile 3 (SM-3) and Standard Missile 6 (SM-6) ship-launched interceptors have also been significantly reduced.

The report further indicates that the U.S. expended between 40 and 70 of its 90 Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM), which are the most advanced munitions developed for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).
