NATO selects GlobalEye

NATO will field a modern non-Boeing airborne warning aircraft for the first time since its 1982 surveillance fleet began.
The Support and Procurement Agency selected Saab’s GlobalEye to replace its aging E-3A Sentry fleet as part of its modernization.
The NTSB said missed radio warnings and the fire-truck’s missing transponder caused the LaGuardia crash.
The crash killed two pilots and injured 30 people among passengers and firefighters.

NTSB flags gap

The NTSB found that none of the seven LaGuardia emergency vehicles carried transponders, disabling automatic collision alerts.
On March 22, an Air Canada jet collided with a fire-truck on LaGuardia Airport runway, killing pilots and injuring passengers, firefighters.
The tower cleared the fire-truck onto Runway 4 while the jet was only 130 feet above ground.
Director Kathryn Garcia said the agency will await the NTSB report before deciding on transponders.
