Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition Documentary Offers a Fan-Centric Look at Five Decades of Metal

Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition opened worldwide in cinemas on May 7, 2026. Directed by Malcolm Venville and produced by Dominic Freeman, the film replaces a traditional narrator with a fan-driven structure. It includes off-camera comments from band members and interviews with cultural figures such as Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich, Chuck D and others.

Formed in London in 1975 by bassist Steve Harris, Iron Maiden celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025 with the Run For Your Lives World Tour, now entering its final leg through November 2026. The band is slated for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction on November 14, 2026, but will miss the ceremony due to tour commitments.

The film features guitarist Adrian Smith, vocalist Bruce Dickinson, bassist Steve Harris, and longtime drummer Nicko McBrain, whose final São Paulo show (December 2024) appears in the footage. Spanning 51 years, the documentary weaves archival concerts from early club gigs to the 2024 São Paulo performance and includes animated sequences charting the Eddie mascot’s evolution.

The documentary shows fans structuring their lives around tours, forming transnational groups, and keeping the band’s music alive in restricted regions such as Cold-War-era Poland and post-war Lebanon.
