Historical Context

In July 2006 Hezbollah’s raid that killed three Israeli soldiers and captured two sparked a 34-day war, ending with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which barred Hezbollah activity south of the Litani River. Ongoing UNIFIL monitoring has not stopped explosive UAV attacks, and today’s drone strike on Sgt. Idan Fooks revives the same raid-response cycle.
