Historical Context

In June 1982 Israel launched Operation Peace for Galilee, invading Lebanon to drive out the PLO and besieging Beirut. The war expelled the PLO by 30 August 1982, sparked the Sabra-Shatila massacre, and left Israel occupying a southern security zone that birthed Hezbollah. The 2024 Israeli incursion echoes that 1982 pattern of invasion, civilian harm, and renewed Hezbollah retaliation.
