OpenAI Goes Multi-Cloud
- On April 27, 2026 Microsoft and OpenAI announced the end of Microsoft’s exclusive license to OpenAI’s technology.
- The amendment makes Azure the first cloud partner, grants a non-exclusive IP licence through 2032, and lets OpenAI sell models on AWS, Google Cloud and other providers.
- OpenAI can now sell its models on AWS, Google Cloud and other providers.
- Microsoft keeps a 27 % stake, loses the revenue share, will receive 20 % of product revenue through 2030, and sees its shares fall 1 % while Alphabet’s rise 1.5 %.
