Historical Context

The 2006 Lebanon War began on 12 July 2006 when Hezbollah seized two Israeli soldiers, prompting a 34-day Israeli campaign that destroyed over 1,200 rocket sites and seized 3 million m² of tunnels before a UN-brokered ceasefire on 14 August 2006 (Resolution 1701). Today Israel’s drone-intercept and tunnel-clearance operations echo that strategy, aiming to cripple Hezbollah’s underground logistics.
