Shawn Hatosy Shifts to Supporting Actor Category for 2026 Emmys

Shawn Hatosy, who won the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series Emmy for Season 1 of HBO Max’s medical drama *The Pitt*, will be entered in the Supporting Actor and Director categories for Season 2 at the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards. He appears in six of the fifteen Season 2 episodes, moving beyond the guest-star threshold.

Variety notes that over 50 performers have changed categories, with recent cases such as Alexander Skarsgård (*Succession*) and Alexis Bledel (*The Handmaid’s Tale*). Emmy rules updated in January 2025 allow the move but impose a permanent restriction: once nominated or winning in a lead or supporting category, a performer can no longer submit as a guest for that role.
