Lead authors Matthew Teasdale and Dimitris Stamatellos of the Jeremiah Horrocks Institute, University of Lancashire, UK, show Kepler-16b orbiting an M-dwarf–K-type binary.
They say the binary’s competing gravity can warp or destroy the protoplanetary disc, stopping dust clumping and ejecting planetesimals into interstellar space.
