Historical Context

In December 1959 Sebring International Raceway held the Formula 1 race in the United States, the II United States Grand Prix, with 19 cars over 42 laps (351 km) and 22-year-old Bruce McLaren winning by six-tenths of a second. Low attendance pushed the event to Riverside and Watkins Glen, establishing a shifting U.S. venue pattern that led to the 2022-2026 Miami Grand Prix and a growing North American F1 presence.
