Japan Intervenes
- Japan intervened on April 30, 2026, buying yen and selling dollars, lifting it about 3%.
- Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama warned action timing was near while diplomat Atsushi Mimura issued an evacuation warning as the yen rose to 155.5 per dollar, its strongest since February 2026.
- Traders covered bets after the yen breached 160 per dollar, resulting in the dollar falling 2.3% to 156.5–156.6 yen, the biggest drop since December 2022.
