Historical Context

In November 2013 Iran and the P5+1 signed the Geneva interim agreement, freezing key nuclear work for about $7 billion sanctions relief. That framework led to the April 2015 deal and the July 14 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which lifted sanctions and capped enrichment under IAEA monitoring. Today Russia and Iran invoke the 2015 model while negotiating a 2026 renewal.
