Historical Context

In May 30-31 2010 Israeli forces boarded the Turkish-flagged Mavi Marmara in international waters, killing nine activists and injuring dozens, which sparked worldwide condemnation and a UN-mandated investigation. The raid strained Israel-Turkey ties and led Israel to ease its Gaza blockade. The recent seizure of the Global Sumud flotilla revives those same legal and diplomatic disputes.
