History

Historical Context

In April 1970 NASA launched Apollo 13, the lunar landing after Apollo 11 (July 1969) and Apollo 12 (Nov 1969). Two days later an oxygen-tank explosion forced Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise to use the lunar module as lifeboat and return after 5 days 23 hours. The accident drove tank redesign and redundant systems that now support Artemis II’s 2026 crew safety.
