Assault Overview
On 25 April 2026 JNIM and the FLA launched an assault that killed defence minister Sadio Camara with a truck bomb in Bamako, seized Kidal and Tessalit, and raised the FLA flag at Amachach base. Within days rebels set up checkpoints on RN24, RN7, RN6 and RN5, blockading capital.

Impact and Security
The junta took power after 2020-2021 coups and relies on Russia’s Africa Corps, has struggled to contain insurgents.
