Historical Context

NASA’s ISS experiments, such as the Spaceborne Computer-2 on the Cygnus NG-15 mission that launched on 20 February 2021 under the Commercial Resupply Services contract, proved commercial off-the-shelf GPUs can run workloads in microgravity. Building on that, Pixxel’s 2026 Pathfinder satellite, founded by Awais Ahmed and Kshitij Khandelwal, uses datacenter-grade GPUs to issue wildfire alerts.
