FIA Announces V8s
- FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem announced F1 will replace V6 hybrids with V8 engines by 2030, stating V8s give better sound, less complexity and lighter weight.
- Shift can happen in 2030 if four manufacturers vote in favor, otherwise the FIA may enforce it for 2031.
- Mercedes principal Toto Wolff backs the V8 move but warns a 100 % combustion engine would look ridiculous without battery power.
- Max Verstappen called the hybrid system anti-racing.
