On 20 August 1998 the United States launched Operation Infinite Reach, striking Sudan’s Al-Shifa pharmaceutical plant—opened 12 July 1997 and employing over 300 workers—to retaliate for the 7 August embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania.
