FFIRI President Mehdi Taj told state broadcaster IRIB that United States must guarantee that Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) will not be insulted if Iran’s team is to travel to United States for 2026 FIFA World Cup. He added, “our host is FIFA, not Mr. Trump or America,” warning that without a “cast-iron guarantee” the delegation could turn back. The demand follows a February 2024 U.S.–Israel air campaign that killed over 3,400 people and injured 26,000. IRGC, force, was labeled a terrorist organization by United States in 2019 and by Canada in 2024. In early May, Canadian officials cancelled Taj’s visa mid-flight over IRGC ties, prompting the delegation to return from Toronto and label the treatment “unacceptable behaviour of immigration officials” and an “insult to one of the most honourable organs of the Iranian nation’s armed forces.”
