Historical Context

On 14 July 2015 Iran, the United States and the P5+1 signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, freezing roughly $100 billion of Iranian assets and cutting its centrifuges from about 19,000 to 6,104 (?68%). The deal lifted UN and EU nuclear sanctions for the first half of 2016. Today Trump’s pause of Project Freedom seeks a similar memorandum to suspend enrichment and restore that sanctions relief.
