Stalled Disarmament Talks Threaten Gaza Ceasefire

On 3 April 2026 U.S.–led Board of Peace (BoP) sent a letter, signed by High Representative Nickolay Mladenov and U.S. official Aryeh Lightstone, to NCAG chief Ali Shaath. It says Israel will not halt attacks or guarantee aid unless Hamas accepts a weapons-decommissioning framework. Hamas received an 11-April deadline, later extended; after a stalled Cairo meeting BoP warned on 5 May that cease-fire commitments become null if Hamas rejects the plan.
