FBI Warns Spoof Scams
- The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned that scammers spoof caller ID to appear as banks and read account numbers and balances.
- A victim transferred $40,000 to a “secure” account after the caller urged the transfer.
- The FBI said banks do not request login details or transfers by phone, urged two-factor authentication, and asked those hit by a spoof or phishing call to report it to Internet Crime Complaint Center.
