Prime Video Unveils “Elle” – Legally Blonde Prequel Set for July 2026

Prime Video released the first teaser for *Elle*, a prequel to the 2001 film *Legally Blonde*, marking the franchise’s 25th anniversary. Set in 1995, the eight-episode series follows teenage Elle Woods (Lexi Minetree) after her family moves from affluent Bel-Air to rainy Seattle when her father Wyatt (Tom Everett Scott) takes a new job. The teaser also features “Perfect Day,” the song from the original film, reinforcing the connection. The relocation places the pink-clad heroine in a high-school “fish-out-of-water” world of tricky friendships, a forbidden romance and the signature fashion of the franchise. *Elle* premieres July 1, 2026 on Amazon Prime Video, and a second season has already been ordered.

Reese Witherspoon described the series as a dream come true to share the story of how Elle became the unstoppable force beloved by fans. She said discovering Lexi Minetree had been one of the most gratifying experiences of her career. In March she explained that portraying Elle as a fish out of water in 1990s grunge-era Seattle would be fun, and said the development process served as a valuable exercise in revisiting the original two *Legally Blonde* movies to capture the character’s specificity.
