White House Counterterrorism Strategy Targets Left-Wing and Trans Groups

On Wednesday the White House issued a 16-page “United States Counterterrorism Strategy,” the first since a 2021 memo. Counterterrorism czar Sebastian Gorka frames “Violent Left-Wing Extremists, including Anarchists and Anti-Fascists,” alongside Islamist terrorists and narcoterrorists as equal threats, and orders identification and neutralization of groups described as anti-American, radically pro-transgender, and anarchist. The document omits far-right groups and cites the September killing of anti-LGBTQ+ activist Charlie Kirk, for which 22-year-old Tyler Robinson is the accused shooter; Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Rep. Bennie G. Thompson are quoted.
